can it be anywhere on the disk ??

Yes check out:

for common problems.

QNX Realtime Platform pre-release - Common Problems
Boot problems/Problems with Boot loaders:
Installation to extended partitions fail, installations to non-primary drives
fail and installations above the 1024th cylinder fail. Typically this
results in seeing the message, “Package manager: Can’t open package
qnxbase…”
Solution is to rearrange your file systems and make sure that the complete
boot image is loaded below the 1024th cyclinder. Install on a primary
drive and not to any extended partitions.
Installation to SCSI hard disk:
At present time the QNX Realtime platform doesn’t support installation onto
SCSI hard disks. This issue will be
fixed in the near future (estimated date October 15th 2000).
Modem:
Detection/Enumeration
Some modems are not being detected. This is being looked into
Dialup problems (see Networking)
USB Support:
USB support has not been released yet. It will be coming in a future release.
Mice:
Acceleration/Speed
Presently mouse speeds and responsivness can not be set by the user.
A user friendly interface is under development.
Wheel mice
The wheel of a wheel mice is not supported, this is being looked into.
Keyboards:
dvorak
At present it is not possible to use dvorak keyboard settings, the development
of a driver is being looked into.
mkkbd missing
Being added in the next release.
Networking
ISA NE2000 not detected
The isa ne2000 always has to be reset there is a problem with autodetection.
Temporary solution:
Dialer cuts off when trying to authenticate PPP.
Dialer connects then disconnects after 5 minutes or less
This issue has been looked at by our developers and should be fixed for next
release.

But I saw that it’s now possible (release 09-00) to install qrtp anywhere. installation procedure ask for this possibility. Right ?
I will install QNXRTP on my second IDE-HD. On this HD are the following
partitions:
in the primary partition : - Linux “/boot”
in the extended partition : - Linux “/swap”

How can I install QNXRTP on the “unused 2Gbyte partition” ???
MFG Max
I don’t know yet how the CD install works, but the Windows QNXRtp
version need at least 600 Mb left on a DOS FAT partition. Create a 1Gb
FAT partition in your free space, and launch the install.

You can still escape the ‘Gates’ of Hell : Run Linux !
IIRC, the 600 MB is not a “at least” requirement, but a recommendation; you
can type in a smaller amount if you wish.

I installed it on 200MB on my old 486, works just fine for me.
