I’m trying to get QNXRTP running on a second Dell
Optiplex GX110 system. It has a Intel 82801AA drive
controller with a Maxtor 51024H2 drive. It’s having
the common problem of not finding the /.diskroot file
and then complaining about not finding the package
manager. I booted with the ‘7’ option and only my cd0
device shows up with ‘els’.
Is my drive/controller not supported? Is there
any way to get it working? Can I plug a 2nd drive
in and use that?
I’m kindof pissed because I bought this pc for running
QNX, but it’s slightly different than the first Dell system
I’ve been running RTP on, which has a generic drive
controller and a Maxtor 51024H2 drive and works
just fine.
Arthur, please look through the other messages in this news group. You’ll
find that many of the newer SCSI HD controllers are not supported. At get.qnx.com you’ll find info on supported hardware, including file systems.
Qnx says they’ll support these in a future release, RealSoonNow:>)

Can you provide a bit more info.
Is this a SCSI controller or IDE? Is there a hard drive on the master
connector of the primary IDE, or is the hard drive on the secondary
cable?
The Maxtor 30768H1 (I think I mixed up the model #s for
the 2 systems in my original post) drive is an IDE
‘Ultra ATA 100/66’ if that helps. (I haven’t kept up with
drive tech since the RLL/MFM era. The Intel controller chip
claims support for ‘Ultra ATA/66, Ultra ATA/33, and PIO Mode 4’.
Dell set up the system, so I’m relying on windows to tell me
that the hard drive is the primary device and the cdrom is
the secondary one.

So I’ve swapped some computers around to assemble a working
RTP system so I can get my work done, but for future reference, does
anyone know if the Intel 82801AA should work or not? Seems like
lots of systems (Dell, etc.) are going to be using Intel integrated
controller chips, so if support is not in the works I’d suggest the QNX
guys take a look at it.
