Partition problems after installing RTP

Hi,
I need help!
In many areas, but in particular at the moment with my harddisk. After
installing QNX Realtime Platform, I have lost disk partition information on
my harddrive.
It was set up as a dual boot system with Win98 and Windows 2000.
The disk is a 9.1G Quantum FireBall Ka; there were 3 partitions C: Win98
Fat32, D: Win2K NTFS, E: Shared FAT32.
I installed QNX from Windows 2000, targetting the C partition. The
installation wrote a boot disk, but failed to verify it. After rebooting,
only the C: partition was visible, and I couldn’t reboot Windows 2000, but
WIndows 98 works.
Also the disk CMOS keeps resetting to 2G disk size, 255 heads instead of 9G
16 heads. The C partition was probably around 2G.
FDisk just reports the one partition, the rest of the disk is free space.
I’ve tried downloading a couple of programs OnTrack EasyRecovery (trial
version) - this seems to find the NFTS system, but not the E: FAT32
partition which I want to recover. (it also seems to have written partition
info at the end of the first partition, even though it says it only reads
the disk). Also tried ACR Data Recoverys Boot Partition Recovery program
(trial) - only finds first C Fat32 partition, although it might be limited
here by the CMOS /EBIOS settings.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to recover the partition table, and
hopefully the data on my E partition?
Why would this happen anyway - I didn’t see anything about not installing
QNX from Windows 2000.
Thanks

This is very odd, to my knowledge installation inside a FAT 32 filesystem
doesn’t even touch the partition information.

As for Windows2000 it installed just fine for me.

Sorry I know this doesn’t really help, but hopefully it will tell
you where not to look.

If you’ve got really important data on the lost partition, create a physical
backup of your HD before doing anything else. This will enable you to have
infinite tries. Without it - you’ll have only one. Be careful.
I’d recommend using Diskeditor (for dos). It’s able to do physical backup,
and provides a sophistical recovery system.

Hi again,

I managed to recover most of my files, but I am not sure just what happened.

The boot sector for the NTFS partition was cleared, and the file system
corrupted. Also the MBR partition entries were incorrect.

The problem occurred after creating a boot floppy disk, the system rebooted,
and then displayed a message Press Esc for alternate operating system (or
similar), and then a lot of question marks. After a lot of disk activity,
and no further messages as to what was happending I rebooted. The disk
partitions were then corrupted. Was thie anything to do with having an
existing dual boot of Win98 and Win2K?

I don’t think I want to try again on this computer. Can I transfer the files
created in setup - qnx/boot/bin and qnx/boot/fs directories to another
computer (486 DX4-100) running DOS, and boot into qnx.?

The installation instructions are not very clear.
