boot loader

Hello,

I have installed the RTP with its boot loader and find that if I don’t want
to boot into QNX (in partition 3), I have to be “at the ready” at boot time
to type a ‘4’. Is there any way to make this loader default to the last
partition booted? Are there some instructions about its use? TIA.

Regards,
Armand

Hello,
just boot QNX as usually and then call the fdisk utility (e.g. if your HDD
is /dev/hd0 in QNX, use “fdisk /dev/hd0”). You must see your installed
partitions; select the QNX (using up/down arrows), make it bootable (by
typing “B”), save (“S”) and reboot (“shutdown”)

Luca,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’m afraid that I haven’t made the issue
clear. If I want to boot into QNX, there is no problem - just let it boot.
However, if I want to boot into my other OS, which shall remain nameless at
this time, I have to be very attentive (and quick) in typing its partition
number. “Attentive and quick” are not really consistent with my age group.
So, I would like to know if there is a way to modify the operation of the
QNX boot loader so that it is more like System Commander or Boot Magic.
With those, there is a significant period of time alotted for choosing to
boot an OS other than the one last booted. And, if no action is taken, the
last OS booted is the one that automatically boots. It would also be
helpful to know where this loader is documented. Thanks.

Regards,
Armand

The boot loader has no options to wait for input.
However, you can pre-select the other OS to boot using the same method as
outlined previously, except, you make the appropriate (and not QNX)
partition the bootable partition. From within other OS’es (like Windoze)
you can run fdisk to make the QNX partition bootable. All these programs
do, essentially, is set a bit in one and only one of the partition entries
of the Master Boot Record that tells whatever booter you use which partition
is the default partition to boot.
