Patch A on Adaptech aha8 - won't boot

I’m installing from a floppy and the iso CD. Install seems to work
but on reboot I get nothing after the File /.swapfile succ… added
message.

I installed onto a 500 mb partition.

If I reset, then I get a message:

unable to start devc-con

The conference CD worked on this PPro (even though it wasn’t supposed
to).

Any ideas on what to try next?

Hi David,

The RTP does seem to “boot” in a sence then for you. So it seems to
halt after the creation of the swapfile. What happens if you select
a verbose startup (space bar option at boot time). What is the output
then?

Funny thing. I got stuck on devc-con with no usable info in verbose
mode, so reinstalled. This time, I selected safe, no photon and verbose
mode and got things running with nothing other that a couple of exits
and manually starting Photon. On reboot, everything worked fine including
building the swap file. The ATI mach driver and ISA SB driver work well.

One other comment - if the CD is not loaded early in the process,
one gets the unable to find cd message noted in some other postings.

Hi David,

Glad to hear you got it working. Just a bit of clarification, what do you mean
byt “if the CD is not loaded early in the process, one gets the unable to find
cd message noted in some other postings.”. Do you mean early in the boot
sequence?

Thanks

I’ve noticed (only on laptops, which is what I use for trying to work with
QNX, no idea if occurs on desktops) that unless I insert the QNX CD after
the OS has booted but before it has finished detecting hardware and has
started photon, the whole CD drive won’t be seen even if I later insert the
CD. I haven’t verified this still happens under patch A, but it was a 100%
of the time issue under the previous RTP release…

Maybe this is what he was referring to?

I’m not sure what the exact timing is, but I suspect that the CD
should be loaded before the scsi driver is started. The cd adaptor
is detected properly, but does not seem to see the disk if you
wait too long.

Thanks
