Boot disk for PC104

Hi,

I have made a boot disk for QNX RTP on my desktop pc. I am able to use this
boot disk on several computers but whenever I try to use it on my PC104 I
get this message:

“Press ESC for alternate OS…C”

Then the system hangs. I get a similar problem when I use the boot disk
created during a QNX RTP install. Instead of getting one “C” at the end I
get an infinite number of "?"s. I created the boot disk using the files
found at: staff.qnx.com/~emuis/ which was mentioned in a previous post.

Another thing I have noticed is that if I don’t write protect these disks
before booting them in the PC104, they no longer work on any system.

Just to add another twist, the QNX RTP 1.44" Demo Disk does work on the
PC104.

I have tried many different things but I must be doing something wrong.
Does anyone have any ideas?? Is there something I have overlooked?

Thanks

Hi Davin,

Did you format the floppy diskette in Windows before you used the
make_disk util?

Yes, the diskette was formatted in Windows 2000. Is that a good or bad
thing?

Thanks,

Hi Davin,

Its fine  as long as it was formatted with “DOS”. Actually which boot
diskette did you download? Was it

“Bootable diskette for use of simple debugging with QNX RTP”

If so there is some problems with that image, and I actually haven’t
gotten a chance to get rid of it.

Is there a particular reason you needed the boot disk?

I tried both.

I need a boot diskette to be able to boot the PC104 and initialize the Disk
on Chip we have on board. Nothing seemed to be working so I downloaded your
image to make things simpler.

Btw, how am I supposed to “format” a floppy in QNX RTP. There is no
formart, fdformat or any other format command. Am I supposed to just use
windows/dos formatted diskettes?

Hi Davin,

The boot disk that was on my page doesn’t have support for disk on chips,
however in QNX 6.0.0 (patch A) there is a disk on chip driver (devb-doc)
that was made by m-systems. Have you tried this driver yet?

BTW, you won’t be able to install the RTP onto the DOC as a “regular
install”. You will need to setup the DOC.

Hints on that and a few examples can be found here:
