PCI Startup failed on Dell Dimension

I’ve got a Dell Dimension P233, 128 Megs RAM, onboard IDE running 4 hard
disks, HP CDRW on Advansys 940 SCSI (I know this controller is not supported,
but I don’t need CD access at the moment).

I’ve successfully installed the QNXRTP files on an MS-DOS file system,
but when I attempt to boot, I get the the “PCI Startup failed” message,
and the system freezes.

I’ve checked all the messages on this board and so far, there has not been
any real solution posted for this problem…

I CANNOT run the ‘pci-bios -vvv’ because the system doesn’t boot up far
enough to get a prompt, and neither can I rebuild a system without the PCI
for the same reason (although the system most certainly does have a PCI bus-
I’ve got a Voodoo 3000 PCI plugged in as the video card).

If this problem is common enough that it is listed in the Knowledge base,
with the workaround being to build a custom boot, perhaps someone at QNX could
do this and put an image up for us to download?

Hi,

Make sure that you have the latest patch installed (patch B), as it
should fix this problem.

Erick.

I have no idea which patch I’ve got- I’ve installed from a CD created from
the ISO image on the web site… I have a feeling that it’s likely the January
distribution…

If it turns out that I do need the patch, according to your web site, I need
to use the package manager to get patch B… To use the package manager, I
need to be running QNX. The problem now becomes, I can’t get patch B because
I can’t yet boot QNX, but to boot QNX, I need patch B…

Chicken and the egg… How about a workable solution like updating the ISO on
the web site??
