Here is my problem… I want to install to a parttion and i don’t have a cd

to get it to go on a partition. You can honestly say there is NO WAY to
install it to a partition without the cd?
Please help,
Thanks

Hi phearbear.
phearbear:
ofcaurse it IS possible,
Hmmmm. IF he had a version of windows he could boot from as a tempory
measure anyone could do it this way.
grab a valid qnxrtp.iso ,valid as in a good download, it seems that
many peoples problems stem from the fact that their initial DL is in
some way corupted, bad resume ect.
use the (really good) free windows iso loader program called daemon
to creat a fake CD http://www.daemon-tools.com and open it from my computer
to which point it should (does on all machines i`v tryed) boot with the
option install into a windows hardfile.
once he/they have a valid and working RTP hardfile i assume it would
easy to make an RTP bootable partition that he/they could copy the
contents of this RTPhardfile to ?.
ill have to leave that part for you to fill in PhearBear LOL
as im not to sure how to use the RTP version of fdisk (a nice photon GUI in the amiga
HDtoobox` style would be great hint 8() )
from there, something like XOSL Gfx bootloader(way better than lilo IMO)
would allow you to boot the new RTP partition, then assuming the qnxrtp.iso
is on a fat32 hd and mounted as hd0-dos-3 use
mount -t /fs/hd0-dos-3/qnxrtp.iso /This-Is-The-CD-iso-on-a-windows-Partition
i did have the iso in several /!1/!2/!3/this.iso but it seems mount
didnt like eather the leading !
or the 3 subdirs so i moved
the rtp.iso to the root of the windows drive and it was cool with that.
use a real name for that /this-is… bit, just thought i`d make
that clear incase some people didnt quite realise LOL
/cdrom2 would be fine
/cdrom2 or /This-Is-The-CD-iso-on-a-windows-Partition whatever you used,
would appear a dir off hmmm was it / or /root i forget and type this in
winUAE on THOR (THE BEST email/news reader ANYWERE, someone should port
this or a clone of it to RTP, or once Phx(JIT)UAE gets piccasso4/BSD socket
library emulation support i can use it there) so cant check.
then finally to install all the tools and apps on the RTP CD
point the repository tool to the mounted fake /cdrom2 in away ya go.
iv been thinking about this linux problem and perhaps theres some things i
v not aware of, i dont know linux and only installed it
after i had RTP up and tryed configure/make`ing the 0.8.15 (jit)UAE
(0.7. works great, piccasso4/BSD and everything but VERY SLOW on Xphoton).
anyway IF there were a way to unpack the qnxbase.qfs and other related
binaryfiles (hardfiles ?) and the windows related exes dinitw32.exe, loadqnx.exe and any other exe
s could be opened platformed or rewritten for the linux os then i
m assuming that it would be possible to
boot a basic RTPhardfile on linux and recreate an RTP partition
as per the above windows way ?.
Hmmmm, on a related thought, how is the RTP hardfile made up ?
i`e the amiga hardfile as created on any *UAE platform is a simple
binaryfile of a user given size and accessed as a 32.1.2.512 harddrive
(secs 32,heads 1 ,reserved 2 ,bsize 512).
if the RTP hardfiles are in something like this, then it should be
possible to get for instance the makers of WinImage5 (windows based
virtual floppy/harddrive/iso maker/mounter) or enterprising linux
developer to include/create an RTP hardfile mounter (im assuming
linux cant at the moment) and in doing so give an easy way to manipulate
RTP hardfile content outside of RTP, anyone want to try ?.
but asking a friend with CD burner to burn the
cd is just SOO much easier >
Well, if you don’t want to do that , here is some tips
You can create a partition from a windows/linux ‘in a file’ install
Ohh (click now !Doe)
do you mean as in a file
to mean a standard RTP HARDFILE AND that
theres currently a working linux version of the windows version,
(linux shell based hardfile makeing tool and all the associated exes/bits) ?,
if so then as per my teenyweeny text above LOL, wouldnt just
mounting the qnxrtp.iso from linux (i assume it can, like RTP above)
and using the linux hardfile as i THINK your saying work ?
(once they/i know how to (make)prep/format a blank RTP partition from RTP)
Copy over the files, you will need to fiddle with the pkg-fs for this to
work, a cd / cp -RF * /newpartition will not work …
build a partition .boot (maybe? I’m not sure if those are the same as
in the windows installs’ but i’m pretty sure they are not, look @
/boot/build
Make your partition bootable
Install a bootloader, Install the onpartition bootloader. (dinit)
Then you should be able to boot, but i’m sure you’ll get a few problems
here, but it shouldn’t be any huge ones…
If you choose to do this way, goodluck! Report back and tell us how it
went >
