Howdy QNX-land,
More than once I have installed QNX6 to its own partition from the
purchased CD labeled 01.01.16. I have also (I thought) upgraded to
patch B through the WWW repository. In one episode I copied the
warning that, after doing the patch B thing, issuing the command
‘uname -a’ should yield the following:
QNX yourhostname 6.00 2001/02/22-08:59:07est x86pc x86
However, both before and after doing the patch B thing (including
reboot) ‘uname -a’ returns the above with a date of
2000/10/17-14:59:25edt. This indicates the patch didn’t take and,
BTW, I have not fiddled with the build file.
On the the other hand, bringing up the package manager and checking
the “View My Software” box, the package mgr says patch B is active.
So, who do I believe, Package Mgr or uname output?
Thanks for your input.

Both. Package manager tell you what packages have been installed but it does
not tell what version of kernel you’re running. Installing a new version of
kernel on harddrive is not enough because kernel can’t be restarted. You
need to rebuild boot image using new kernel and reboot. Normally that should
be done by install script coming with packages but it is not smart enough to
handle all possible cases (it can’t know what you’re booting from).
Here is idea for you QNX guys. Let those users who use non-default boot path
create some /etc/bootparam or such which would contain pathname of boot
image. Then package installer could pick it up to take care about new
images.

That is, running proper mkifs as suggested in the Patch B
Release Notes has no effect? (The parameters may differ in your
installation).

Thanks Igor and Andrzej,
Running mkifs did the trick – as suggested in the Release Notes.
I usually RTFM but this time I didn’t even RTFRN.
