/dev/pci does not mount on MSI motherboard

I tried the first public release of qnx when it was released. There I
got the following message at bootup:

pci_server: unable to initialize pci bus!
Unable to open /dev/pci

(Or something similar…). The result was that I didn’t get any audio
(onboard) and had to choose a vesa
screen mode, but everything else worked ok.

I have download the latest cd image (two days ago) and was hoping this
problem was fixed by
now. But when I try to boot either the cd or the install disk it hangs
with the message
‘unable to mount /dev/pci’.

My motherboard is a MSI K7T Pro (socket A with VIAKT133 chipset).

Is there a workaround for this or will it be fixed in the near future?

Hello
I also have this problem with my Abit KT7A (VIA Chipset…).
As does a few others in this NG as well…but I havn’t seen any replies to
those
earlier inquiries. I hope this isn’t an incurable bug till 6.1.x!
Downloading the entire
QNX RTP 6.1 ISO over a dialup modem, to find that things don’t
work at all, is a shame. I should have done things different

Anyway… here’s hoping there is a fix! I really wanted to delve into
Photon API… I hear its a blast to interface with.

Ryan

Hi Hans,

Could you please try the new pci-bios located at developers.qnx.com.

Startup your system
slay pci-bios (if it is running)
start the new one

Please post here to let us know how it turns out.

Thanks

E.

Hello
thanks for your reply, even though I wasn’t an originator of this thread

How would one go about doing this if this occurs using the
installation bootdisk? Is there a special console mode
that bypasses the usual start-up routine, with a command
to continue the install process after running the new
pci-bios? And where would we access the new pci-bios?

Or is my speculated console only available if QNX was preinstalled
onto a FAT partition under Windows?

Could it be possible that someone may be able to create
a new installation bootdisk with this new version?

Thanks for your efforts!

best of regards,
Ryan M.

I am getting the same message when trying to boot with a floppy on an IBM
model 6885R8H desktop computer (100 MHz Pentium, 32 MB RAM, circa 1995).
According to the knowledge base, this was fixed in the 6.1.0 (which I assume
is on the 2001/06/29 CD), but I stil get it.

Incidently, if I install to Windows 95 and then select either QNX boot
options, the same messages appear (but I want to get rid of Windows on this
machine).

What should I do?

Hi Bob,

In order for us to be able to fix this problem we will require
that the hardware gets shipped in to us. Will you be able do to
this?

Erick.
