Kensington Track ball

Will 6.1 support a Kensington Expert Mouse?

If so, what’s the magic? I was hoping I coukd just plug it in and it would
magically work. Silly me!

Is it this one ( http://www.keytools.com/mice/expert.htm ) ? If yes, of
course we don’t. Eventually this device uses non-standard protocol.

No. Mine is a little simpler. There is no wheel and there are no buttons
on top.

It did work on a windows system without a driver.

Hi -
I have a Kensington Expert Mouse with the serial connection, and it works
just fine. I think it is an older one…
It is a Model 64215, and Version 5.0 from the sticker on the back. It has two
buttons on each side of the trackball, but without some sort of enabler, of
course they act like two right buttons and two left buttons.
But it does work fine as long as I clean out the cat fur occasionally

I have the exact model 64215 V5.0. It has worked exactly three times under
RTP.

I have no idea in the world what made it work or why it doesn’t most of the
time. (Note: this is on a laptop where I jump back and forth between Win98
and RTP about a dozen times a day.) But now I know IT CAN WORK!

I hate the little dot button on my Toshiba. So, what can I try to make the
trackball work.

My first thought is that /dev/ser1 comes up at 57,600 bps. But I tried
manually changing this AFTER boot up to 1200, but still no luck.

Hi Bill -
I just checked pidin arg and hisoft is started with “msoft fd -d /dev/ser1”
for the mouse, and stty </dev ser1 shows
“+raw -hupcl par=none bits=7 stop=2 baud=1200 rows=0,0”
It looks pretty vanilla to me, I didn’t touch the enumerators; just install and
boot and up comes photon!

I’d like to try to revisit this. I have several Kensington “Expert Mouse”
Trackballs V5.0 on several CPUs.

They all work with RTP when connected to the serial port. So the
protocol is supported. AND they all work under QNX4/Photon 1.14 when
connected to the PS2 mouse port. So they CAN talk to the mouse port.

I’d like to get them to work under RTP on the PS2/ mouse port (I want to
use my serial port for other things).

Under QNX4, my input.# trap file looks like this:
ps2 -r kb -2

So, is there some config file somewhere I can hand edit to get this to
magically work under RTP?
