Why doesn't it swap ?

I have an ancient notebook - 5x86-133MHz, 20Mb RAM.
When I try to run some applications those require a lot of memory, QNX 6.1
doesn’t swap.
For example, I can’t even install packages - when I start Package Installer
the memory usage indicator shows about 93% and then, when I’m trying to open
CDROM repository, it just falls. Swapctl shows, that “swap space in use: 0”.
Another example:

  1. Start Package Installer (93% memory usage)
  2. Start terminal and then mc (Midnight Commander) - (99% memory usage)
  3. Start another terminal (100% memory usage)
If I try to start swapctl inside the second terminal - the system reports "
    fork () = -1"

What am I doing wrong?

Oleg,
There is QCC only used swap file in QNXRTP. The program must manifestly say to system “I want
swap”, nor Installer nor Midnight Commander doesn’t do it. The only solutions for you, to make
custom bootable image in order to rid of the huge devb-eide’s buffers at least. Swapping is not
good thing in real-time, if you want to know why it such limitted.
Best regards.

devb-eide buffer is 15% of ram I beleive. With 20Meg of ram you won’t be
able
to do much with QRTP.
