installing qnx 6.1

Hai,
Iam facing a strange problem in installing qnx 6.1 on my Desktop PC,
well the configuration of the PC is intel celeron 1GHz, with 128 MB ram
with 10GB Seagate harddisk, I could successfully install Window 98 on my
primary partition, and linux 7.2 on my logical partition, now I want to
install qnx 6.1 on logical partition,
I tried to boot/Install from CD, it stops at …

Detecting EIDE , Scanning for new devices,
------- Here my system stops responding ie every thing stops working.

I also tried to install on Windows 98, it works fine, and the moment I start
to boot from qnx with DMA/ without DMA support I face the same problem of
system hang, as said above.

I also tried to change the system configuration with Intel pentinum III
with 128 MB ram, I face the same problem.

Any suggestion is welcome and appreciated,

Regards,
Praveen.

I had a similar problem installing QNX RTP on my machine. I had to create a
primary partition for installing QNX. After that I was able to install QNX
RTP. My installation order was MSDOS 5.0, Windows 2000, Linux, then QNX.
After that it seemed to work great.

Hi Freely,

I have read this news because I encounter the same problem. I works with
Dell P3 600 MHz (10 Go HD) under Win 2K.
I have created a primary partition for QNX installation. I install it under
Win 2k, and when I reboot my computer it hangs at “EIDE Detected .Scanning
for device”. It’s the same when I boot from the CD. (The primary partition
on which I installed QNX is after 1024 cylinders of the HD).

Have you other solutions! it will really help me because, I tried to install
it since 3 days!

Thanks!

Hi Raphael,
Would you like to be more precission about your hardware? Is your IDE controller in supported
hardware list (promise ultra ata 100 controllers are not supported in 6.1, they are supported in
6.2 release)? Which IDE devices are in your system? Did you try to press space bar during boot
process and select verbose booting without DMA, what exactly do you see in this case?
(1024 cyl limit is not a problem, because the loader already passed control to the image in your
case, your problem is when diskboot launches the devb-eide driver…)
Best regards,

Eduard.
