6.2 beta 3 installation/boot problem on desktop

Hi all

Tried to install qnx rtp 6.2 3 from ISO cd on the following machine:

  • Intel PIII 500 MHz
  • Shuttle motherboard
  • Primary master: EIDE Quantum Fireball 10G with a single big Window$
    98 partition :^(
  • Primary slave: EIDE Maxtor 3G (tried to install RTP here)
  • Secondary master: CD rom HP
  • 196 MB ram

Installation and file copying go well (either on 3G or 1,5G partition),
and QNX loader succesfully istalled on MBR of the primary master (new
version working with HD size > 8G)

When I boostrap, loader ask me to choose disk/partition: Window$ start
well, but when I choose disk 2 (Maxtor) the following happens:

  • “Press ESC for .altboot” is printed on screen
  • a big number of “.” start to be printed on screen… (I suppose
    searching for OS image start into the data block loaded from disk, isn’t
    it?) after 10/15 lines of “.” system hangs

I’ve tried the following:

  • press Esc to start .altboot image (with no DMA on IDEs)
  • disable UDMA on maxtor HD from BIOS

…Always the same behaviour.

Seems QNX OS loader looks for OS image in wrong place. Is any LED on your hard drives to see which
drive is working when dots are printing to screen?
You could check out the bootsector of QNX partition - it should be
0x81 at offset 0x11 in bootsector for second drive :wink: At least it’s true for 6.1A

Please use right channels to report problems with beta release. I believe it is best way to bring
attention of developers, otherwise we will get this bug in 6.2 release :frowning:
