Localization of 6.2.0 to German etc.

Hi,

I just installed the QNX 6.2.0 and found that German keyboard and display do
not work although we had proper Localization data (language German, Keyboard
German)!

Any hints?

Moreover I am missing some kind of update procedure from 6.1.0 to 6.2.0 - it
just erases the existing installation of the older system

Any hints?

Jörg

I checked the files:
/etc/config/trap/.KEYBOARD.host_name — contains correct value
“de_DE_102.kbd”
~/.ph/.ABLANG — contains
“de_DE”
but photon comes with American keyboard … (it is a German one !!)

Go the the ‘Localization’ dialog and change the keyboard to Something else
e.g. Russian and hit ‘Apply’ then change it back to German, hit Apply then
Done. I have long suspected there is a bug whereby the keyboard change does
not take effect immediately, which I experience changing from US to UK
keyboards after installation.

wow, this is some kind of localization (a little bug) - I did it first with
the “keyboard” tab alone, but that was not enough, so I did it with the
“language” tab. Went to Japanese  - and back to German - it works !! would
save me any further comment !!

Thanks Jim

Hi,

The thread about this problem is there (in russian):
http://qnx.org.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?topic=288&forum=2&11

But here is the quick help for russian kbd, I hope you’ll able to catch the idea:

  1. Localization->Keyboard->Russian->Done
  2. Exit Photon
  3. Go to directory /etc/system/trap
  4. Looking for the file .KEYBOARD.localhost (or your another HOSTNAME)
  5. Change contents to:
    en_US_101.kbd
    ru_RU_102.kbd
(exactly this order will for kbd layouts)
  6. Launch Ph
  7. Kbd layout selector Left(Alt-Shift)

well, now it seems to work, what I did:

  1. Localization as->keyboard->German->done

  2. Exit Photon
2.a. in /etc/system/trap there was no file .KEYBOARD.“localhost” however

  3. in /etc/config/trap/.KEYBOARD.“localhost” I changed content to
    en_US_101.kbd
    de_DE_102.kbd

  4. ph again - no results even after a 2nd localization

  5. exit Photon again

  6. l checked the /etc/config/trap/.KEYBOARD.“localhost” – only
    en_US_101.kbd

  7. I changed to German as above and copied the file to /etc/system/trap

  8. relaunched Photon - and now it worked !!

comment: this is strange behaviour !! actually not what the system should do
!!
tnx anyway

It was observed, sometimes system will accidently reset setting to en_US kbd :frowning: But at least, you
already know some shaman’s song to restore stuff back
I hope this behaviour of system will be fixed in patch A for 6.2 release.

p.s. Is there shaman’s tambourine included in box version (SE, PE)?
