yet another package installation problem!

Hi,

Am using momentics nc6.2, in a FAT partition under winXP, have downloaded
iso image to
hard drive and extracted the files using a converter program. Then run setup
from hd, and
installed a dual boot OS. (because I have no cd burner).

The qnx installs the core packages, but the extra ones like the GNU toolset,
are not. If I go
to the hard drive directory where the repository is, the installer
recognises the packages
but it wont display them, so they cant be selected for installation.

I used the old installer and set ‘add’ repository, as my repository
directory. It can download
them from this directory, but again, wont display the packages for install.?

Can anyone help, as I have seen other messages from people in similar
situations.

Thanks,

Adam,
UK.

Are you sure that you have the correct copy of repository on hard drive?
Please try to mount the qnxnc62.iso and install packages from image:

mount -tcd /fs/hd0-dos/qnx/qnxnc62.iso /fs/cd0

I suppose you have the iso image on FAT partition which is mounted as /fs/hd0-dos and the image is
in directory ‘qnx’ on partition (change it for your actual names). Let’s know if problem goes out.

Thanks for reply. Tried your command but got ‘no fstab entries found’.

As regards the repository, it is the one which is contained in the momentics
6.2
image donwload.

It seems strange because if the image had been on the cd, and not on the
hard drive
the old installer would see the same repository.qrm that it now sees on the
hard drive.
I can see the .qpk and .qrm
files on the hard drive using the old installer, and the installer lets me
download them to another location
but when I go to view repository, it shows nothing, even though it says that
there are packages in the
repository, so I cant install.

Very odd. You don’t need any fstab… are you put all arguments in command line right? or try mount
as /fs/qnx-cd for example…

My thought was about some errors (upper case filenames, etc.) which might be when you were
exctracting by some windows tool.

I can’t tell about new qnxinstaller, I did not look it yet  Try to select “view my software”
radioboxes in old installer and click on “view repository” button. Might be you have all software
already installed? (no new software) Then you want “pub100” CD.

Adam,
I tried to mount the iso image which I’ve downloaded under windows (it was my first suggestion). It
worked great. Should not be problem to mount the iso image as CD filesystem and it should be
indiffirently for any installer in which way the CD filesystem is created (it’s mounted /dev/cd0 or
it’s mounted the iso file). Did you check out the iso image checksum?
Best regards.

I’d be a lot more sure of what you’re trying to do if you were using the
“new” installer. It’s not any more complicated than the “old” installer. And
it can handle a lot more varied packages than the older one, and supports a
number of new tags that the old installer will not recognize.

Hi Jerry,

Sorry, if I’m too fast with my questions because I didn’t look deeply at “new” installer yet. First
question: is there any “add repository method” in new installer? Second question: Why I can’t
separate many different packages in new 6.2 repository, for example, if I dislike to install
Mozilla, I cann’t install all except Mozilla, why? Well, I know the method of cut off the Mozilla
(it’s hack), so I wonder why this situation is (you get OS and much more, only by one click…
thanks, I already heard it many times), but I’m not looking for Mozilla related workaround.

Thank you in advance.

The answer to your second question is - this is just the way Momentics has
been packaged. The idea was to make it simple to install. Many people
complained that with passed releases it was not clear what was needed to be
installed to develop for a specific platform. So now if you what to develop
for the ARM processor you install Momentics for ARM and you have everything
you need, in one easy operation. As for Mozilla, this is part of Momentics
so it is installed when Momentics is installed. There is no way, at the
present time, to remove parts of Momentics. It is possible to “hack” it but
its not a recommended option.

The installer does have the ability to show a hierarchical package list if a
repository is packaged this way. Clicking the little icon in top left corner
of package tree headers ( just below the repository address bar) will toggle
you between view by name and view by topic modes. You can see this by
loading the 3rd party cd repository.

hope that answers your question.

Thank you in advance.

I’d be a lot more sure of what you’re trying to do if you were using the
“new” installer. It’s not any more complicated than the “old” installer.
And
it can handle a lot more varied packages than the older one, and
supports a
number of new tags that the old installer will not recognize.

Hi Andrew,
Thank you very much for the answer. Yes, you answered it and even more… You quite clarified my
mind about the way of QNX growing. Thank you again. Cheers.
