SMP problem

I installed QNX 6.1 on Tyan Tiger MP (S2460) motherboard with two Athlon
1900+ processors. I recompiled boot file to SMP mode. I restarted QNX with
shutdown -f command. After first reboot QNX showed two CPU usage. It was
OK. However, after next reboot with the command shutdown-f (software
reboot), QNX shows only one CPU. If I use hardware reboot or I shutdown
completely the system, QNX shows two CPUs again. Has somebody any ideas
about it? I’ll appreciate any comments.

Adam

I want to add that this problem does not exist with Windows 2000. I noticed
that after software reboot in QNX, BIOS detects only one CPU. Does it mean
the command shutdown -f does not reset the motherboard adequately?

I have the exact same board and see the same thing. I also see it with
Linux. It is somewhat random though with rebooting from both QNX and Linux -
sometimes there will be 2, sometimes there will be one. I have found that
a ctrl-alt-del will always bring back the second one.

I believe MSI has released a BIOS update for their dual Athlon boards
which address this issue (but they mention it happens in Windows too).

I have odder issues where sometimes windows reboots and I get a page-fault as
soon as the kernel starts (nice blue screen).

Perhaps I will try out an update to the BIOS.

I’ve already installed the latest update (1.04) for this Tyan’s motherboard.
