QNX 6.2 Windows Host Installation

We have a Windows 2000 machine which has had QNX momentics Installed -
It was then removed - along with the Flexm Manager.
(In the “Remove Programs” option the QNX Installer stubbingly refused to be
removed)

We have now tried to re-install on the machine but without much success.
Installation does not progress very far until a “SEVERE” error is returned
stating
“Could Not Launch c:\winnt\host\win32\x86\usr\bin\qnxinstall.exe”

Any Ideas ?

BOB

First, confirm your QNX_HOST and QNX_TARGET environment variables are set
correctly.

Bob,

The default installation directory is normally “C:\QNXsdk” but you appear to
be using “C:\winnt” - was this intentional? It should still work, but it
seems like a bad idea to be installing into the windows directory.

I suggest you try re-installing again from a “clean” system.

If your system previously had a “sane” install of Momentics you can
uninstall everything as follows:

  1. Launch the QNX Software Installer and uninstall all packages.
  2. Make sure the FlexLM service is not running.
  3. Uninstall FlexLM from the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
  4. Uninstall QNX Software Installer from the Add/Remove Programs control
    panel.

If the above steps fail for whatever reason you will need to manually remove
Momentics from your system:

  1. Make sure to backup any Momentics projects from the workspace directory.
The workspace directory is usually “C:\QNXsdk\workspace”. In your case this
    may be “C:\winnt\workspace” instead.
  2. Delete the entire Momentics installation directory. This is usually
“C:\QNXsdk”. In your case it may be “C:\winnt” so I don’t think you want to
remove your windows directory(!) - instead you can delete the “workspace”,
    “host” and “target” subdirectories.
  3. Remove the following registry keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\QNX Software Systems
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\QNX Software Systems
  4. Remove the QNX_HOST and QNX_TARGET environment variables. You can do
this using the System Properties windows dialog or directly in the registry
    under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
    Manager\Environment
  5. Edit the PATH environment variable and remove any path strings containing
the installation directory. Look for strings like
    “C:\QNXsdk\host\win32\x86\usr\bin”.
  6. Sometimes InstallShield leaves installation directories on your system.
    Delete these directories:
    “C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation
    Information{60793B34-1A3E-4516-A38C-E0A06153A7D7}”
    “C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation
    Information{EAD767C8-34FA-48FC-9CA2-24E619BCDF76}”

At this point you should have a “clean” system. You can now try a fresh
install from the CD - please check if the installation directory defaults to
“C:\QNXsdk”.

Hope this helps.

HI

I went through the process of the “clear out” but still to no avail. It does
not
give me the opportunity to select an install directory. The install shield
runs and immediately
comes back with the sever error quoted earlier ?

I do not know where it is getting the “winnt/host” directory from — No
envionment variables
seem to reference this ???

I eventually found that the registry was “littered” with references to
QNX —
I did a “Find” in the registry editor and carefully deleted (no in the end
it was not too careful)
all references to QNX.

This did the trick and after a short fight with the Flexlm manager got it to
work

Thankyou for your help

Sounds like the Install has gotten out of sync.

Try the following:

  1. Try uninstalling from the control Panel again

  2. Using regedit remove all references to QNX under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

  1. Remove QNX_HOST and QNX_TARGET and QNX from the PATH env vars.

  2. Re-boot

  3. Re-install
