We just got a fully licensed copy of QNX, because I need
to run “mkifs”. But do we really need to upgrade to
6.2.1 from 6.2 NC if all we need is “mkifs”? It looks
like a lot of trouble.

Yes. There are things mkifs relies on to run that you will need.

To me being able to do pidin irq is definitelay worth the upgrade

Pidin ir is nice. But more important to me is staying on the leadinbg
edge of the support curve. You bought and paid for the latest version.
Why not use it?
