Radeon Mobility M6 and 1600x1200 screen

Hi all,
I’m having significant problems getting 6.1 or 6.2.1 to run on a Dell 4100
laptop with a Radeon Mobility M6 video chip and a 1600x1200 display.
According to the supported hardware list, this configuration is supposed to
be supported, but whenever Photon tries to start, the screen freezes and the
machine seems to hang. This even happens when booting in safemode with the
VGA video driver. (As a side note, 6.1 works fine on a laptop that is
identical, except for the screen size.) I’ve updated the system and video
BIOS to the latest versions, but with no luck.

Suggestions?

There is a new Radeon driver in an upcoming patch that contains
a number of fixes for LCD displays. Hopefully this will also solve
the problems you are seeing. Unfortunately all laptops are different,
even when they have the same graphics chip, so it is hard to debug
problems without the hardware here.
