Nto 2.0 Development Seat Plans

Greetings. I’ve got a developer’s seat for Neutrino 2.0, and I need a bit of
enlightenment on what QNX plans to do here. Will the present QNX4 hosted
development environment be moved to the RtP platform and be distributed as part
of the package mangler, or will it remain on QNX4 and use QUICS as the
distribution method for updates? If the full-blown multi-platform development
environment is going to move to RtP with the next update, then I’m going to
start moving my projects over now. If things are going to continue the way
they have in the past on QNX4, then I may or may not make the move now,
depending on whether or not the development package is going to be brought up
to snuff with the more advanced RtP components. Which begs the next question,
is the Nto 2.0 development environment going to be brought up to snuff with the
more advanced RtP components? I’ll assume that if things will move to being
RtP hosted that the answer will be “yes”, but I would like an official answer,
please. As a natural part of this sort of inquiry, I have to ask you when the
next update to the development package is going to be released. I know how
much you despise throwing out time estimates to the public, and I understand
completely why it’s nearly impossible to be accurate with such estimates.
Please look into your crystal ball, throw some chicken bones, consult with the
spirits or whatever else you have to do to come up with at least some sort of
W.A.G. as to when we might possibly see some type of update. I won’t hold you
to it, but at least it’ll give me something to hope for.

Thanks in advance for any information you’re able to share.

Pong! Er, I mean Ping! Somebody run this on up the ladder, please…

Warren,

There was an updated beta posted recently for the qnx4 hosted development
environment (001030.nto.v2.11.beta). This should move to release status, but
it doesn’t include Photon 2.00 and all of the other feature rich components
of the RTP. It is just the x86, mips & ppc runtime & development components.

Doesn’t answer all of your questions but hopefully it is a start .

thanx

I can never remember if you go by “Ben” or “Brian”.

I installationed the beta thingie, and it works. Thanks for pointing it out to
me, I’d completely missed it. Hopefully someone will be able to answer a few
of my other questions, while I continue to attempt to migrate my development
from QNX4 to QNX6 on my own (without a helmet, I might add…)

Whatever do you mean, sir? (hehehehehe)

How about some hints? We can play charades if you prefer. Semaphores at
300 meters? Shadow puppets? Anything?
