You can’t. Pterm is a terminal emulator, and I don’t know of any
terminals that let you read the state of shift keys.
If you don’t care whether your code works on terminals other than pterm,
perhaps redesigning it as a Photon application would be a way to go? You
could still use a PtTty or PtTerminal widget in it…
