This is barely a technical question  Since 3dfx will be bough by Nvida,
the futur of cards based on 3dfx chipset looks grim, so does the support
for 3D in QRTP… Anyone with a crystal ball?

From my unqualified understanding of the statement, they’re going to
settle the pending litigation (in which 3dfx seemed to have better
chances) by acquiring patents in question along with chips, trademarks
and some other graphics related assets.

That gives Nvidia ability to use 3dfx technology and chips in their own
products. It should not preclude 3dfx from developing new products. They
essentially got designated ‘publisher’ for their work. And looks like
they’re not talking about gaming/software business at all.

In relation to RTP support, Nvidia is notoriously stubborn about giving
up any specs. Perhaps things will get more complicated, but hopefully by
that time RTP will gain enough momentum to make them support it.

I hope they’re not about to buy ATI and Matrox too

Support for 3D in RTP is being worked on. The only reason you have it now on
3DFX is because it was such an easy job to port the Mesa 3DFX driver. There
will be hardware 3D support for other cards.

3dfx recommended to shareholders the company be disolved.

As in “Yes there will absolutely be full support for the nVidia TNT2
Ultra.”? Show BeOS where to stick it on 3D support of non-Voodoo
based cards, eh?
