Hi All,
I purchased one of these ethernet cards today for my QNX 6 system because it
was listed in the list of supported cards. But when I install it, the
system does not find the card like my other network card I had in the pc.
How do I go about setting up this system to run this card? It says it needs
the devn-via-rhine driver and I tried that but it didnt work.
TIA,
Jim
With 6.1 that’s odd.
See the problem is that these company keep on changing the freaking chips.
I was told Dlink made the same card modem with 3 different chipset…
I’ve heard Intel board are more “stable”, but infortunately more expensive.

Hi Jim,
How are you starting the driver?
Can you start the driver in verbose mode and post any output you get.
Can you post the output to ‘pci -vvv’.
Regards,
Joe

Yes it is supported. devn-via-rhine.so is the driver.
You can start it by typing “io-net -dvia-rhine -ptcpip” in a shell.
If that doesn’t work take the Vendor and Device ID supplied by
typing “pci -v” in a shell and start the driver like this:
“io-net -dvia-rhine did=0xdevice id,vid0xvendor id -ptcpip”

Hi Jim,

I tried starting it a couple of different ways (don’t know if one is kosher
to do). The first thing I did was start io-net manually with -d via-rhine
as the driver option. I also did it using did= and vid= in the command
lines.
BTW, I have taken the DLINK out and installed it in my Win2k box since my
Win2k box had a 10/100 that was also listed as supported (Macronix 98715).
The other thing I did was go to /etc/system/enum/devices and edit net to
include the card I have in the group for the via-rhine driver. This caused
major problems including not being able to click on Network in the sidebar
without it crashing. I tried different configurations in that file but
neither the Macronix nor the Dlink would work.
If I have to manually start the drivers, where would be the best place to do
it? I’d rather be able to do something in a configuration file somewhere so
that the card will just be recognized.
The two cards are:
Macronix 98715 - Vendor ID 10D9 Device ID 0531
Dlink 530TX - Vendor ID 1186 Device ID 1300
Any advice on how to get either of this cards working would be appreciated.
TIA,
Jim

According to Linux drivers this is a Realtech chipset. I’m not sure
wich one but as far as I can see It’s one of RTL8129 or RTL8139.

I’ve had this problem with D-Link too. Not every product with the same
label is the same product.
They’re noyt as bad as 3Com, yet, however.

I have the driver starting successfully, but all I can ping is my own IP.
The link light doesn’t even come on on the back of the card or the hub. Any
other ideas on how to get this card working? These are the same problems I
saw with the Dlink btw.
TIA,
Jim
