Lockup when installing.

I’ve posted this on the installation newsgroup but didn’t get any really
helpfull responses.

I’m trying to install the most recent release of RTP. I’ve been able to
install all the previous releases on an older machine, but this one just
isn’t working for some reason. Whether booting from an install floppy
or
from the CD, I get a number of … (about 3/4 of a full line) and then

Shutdown[0,0] S/C/F=11/1/11 C/D=ff80e517/ff841050 state(c0)= now lock
[0] PID-TID=1-17

That last 1-17 might actually be 1-12… I’m having a hard time reading
my handwriting.

The machine is a SMP system (2 1 gig. Pentium IIIs), with 640 Megs of
RAM.

Any ideas what I can do to get this working?

There will be an upcoming Patch that fixes some SMP problems. This should
fix your problem. If you post what kind of system you have with more details
(ie. Dell, CPU speeds, how many cpus etc) perhaps someone will know a workaround
for your system.

I can certainly do that… It’s a homebrew computer. VIA kt133
motherboard, dual pentium III’s running at 1 gigahertz each.

Here’s all the details on the motherbaord:

If anyone has a workaround, great. If not, I’ll just sit tight and wait

Ahhh but for the good old days when “homebrew computer” actually meant something
