"Boot partition: 1?" msg

I keep having the “Boot Partition: 1?” msg appearing during boot up… before
the “Press Esc for alt boot…” msg …
How do I get rid of that msg? I only have 1 partition on that harddisk…
something to do with the boot loader?

Hi Wen,

Does that message really disturb you? That message is from boot loader which is living in mbr.
Usualy, mbr’s start up code looks for active partition, loads boot sector of active partition into
memory and then passes control to that code. QNX boot loader prompts for boot partition. I don’t
know as about QNX’s fdisk (take a look at docs), but DOS’s fdisk has option /mbr for writting
standard mbr start up code. I did not try “fdisk /mbr” for disk with non-MS partition on it. But
I’ve restored mbr for NTFS partitioned disk by fdisk from win95. I believe QNX’s fdisk has options
for remove boot loader from mbr.

regards.

Since the harddisk will only contain 1 partition, I hav no need for the
loader. The system will not continue booting if there’s only 1 partition in
the HD & some users accidentally presses a 2 or 3.
The installation I had from the CD doesn’t have this msg … after doing a
fdisk on that HD, I found out that partition was using a NON-QNX loader ??
