mounting ISO9660 image under Neutrino & '.info.' directory

Hi, All;

I don’t know how mount () and mount utility are implemented under Neutrino.
It seems that there is some difference in mounting an ISO9660 image among
Windows, Linux and Neutrino.

The attached file is an ISO image which I created under SuSE 7.2 by using
‘mkisofs’ over a test directory. I burned a CD with this image. Everything
is fine when this CD is read from Windows and Linux. But a mysterious
directory called ‘.info.’ appears which in turn contains 7 files when this
CD is read under Neutrino.

You can reproduce it from command line:

#mount -rt cd /testbin.iso /testbin

You should be able to see : /testbin/.info.

I am guessing that this directory is added into file system additionally
when the image gets mounted under Neutrino. but how?and why?

This is a critical problem for us. We HAVE TO get rid of it because of some
special requirement for our CD products.

Any help is well appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi Xuedong,

Those files are the hidden files of a CD. Normally they are not
displayed under Windows. To “get rid of them” you will have to
use the hidden=ignor option to fs-cd.so Check out the documentation
on fs-cd.so and it will explain what to do.

Hope this helps.

Erick.

Hi, Erick:

Thanks for the information. I tried it just now, but I didn’t see any
difference. Here is the way I start the devb-eide:

devb-eide blk auto=partition,devdir=/dev,verbose=vvvvvvvvv,cache=12M eide
dma,nobios,ioport=0x1f0,irq=14 eide dma,ioport=0x170,irq=15 cd hidden=ignore
&

and here are the out put:

ps

PID PGID SID COMMAND
1 1 1
2 2 1 devc-con -n4
4099 4099 1 pci-bios
4100 4100 1 devb-eide blk
auto=partition,devdir=/dev,verbose=vvvvvvvv
v,cache=12M eide dma eide dma cd hidden=ignore

mount -rt cd /testbin.iso /testbin

ls /testbin

… .info. chgrp chown compress
… cat chmod chvt

As you can see, ‘.info.’ still there, did I miss something else?

From the docs about fs-cd.so, I saw an option for specifying the name for
the information pseudo-directory which is exactly the above directory
‘.info.’, but I don’t know how to let fs-cd.so not generate it.

Can you hide ‘.info.’ in you case? How do you do that?

Thanks.

Xuedong

I also tried this, but it didn’t work either.

mount -rt cd -o hidden=ignore /testbin.iso /testbin1

ls /testbin1

… .info. chgrp chown compress
… cat chmod chvt

Hi, Erick:

Thanks for the information. I tried it just now, but I didn’t see any
difference. Here is the way I start the devb-eide:

devb-eide blk auto=partition,devdir=/dev,verbose=vvvvvvvvv,cache=12M eide
dma,nobios,ioport=0x1f0,irq=14 eide dma,ioport=0x170,irq=15 cd
hidden=ignore
&

and here are the out put:

ps

PID PGID SID COMMAND
1 1 1
2 2 1 devc-con -n4
4099 4099 1 pci-bios
4100 4100 1 devb-eide blk
auto=partition,devdir=/dev,verbose=vvvvvvvv
v,cache=12M eide dma eide dma cd hidden=ignore

mount -rt cd /testbin.iso /testbin

ls /testbin

. .info. chgrp chown compress

Thanks.

Hi Xuedong,

Those files are the hidden files of a CD. Normally they are not
displayed under Windows. To “get rid of them” you will have to
use the hidden=ignor option to fs-cd.so Check out the documentation
on fs-cd.so and it will explain what to do.

Hope this helps.

Erick.

Hi, All;

I don’t know how mount () and mount utility are implemented under
Neutrino.
It seems that there is some difference in mounting an ISO9660 image
among
Windows, Linux and Neutrino.

The attached file is an ISO image which I created under SuSE 7.2 by
using
‘mkisofs’ over a test directory. I burned a CD with this image.
Everything
is fine when this CD is read from Windows and Linux. But a mysterious
directory called ‘.info.’ appears which in turn contains 7 files when
this
CD is read under Neutrino.

You can reproduce it from command line:

#mount -rt cd /testbin.iso /testbin

You should be able to see : /testbin/.info.

I am guessing that this directory is added into file system
additionally
when the image gets mounted under Neutrino. but how?and why?

This is a critical problem for us. We HAVE TO get rid of it because of
some
special requirement for our CD products.

Any help is well appreciated.

Thank you!

The “.info.” subdirectory hosts the volume meta-information for the CD
(volume name,
system name, abstract, etc, plus the “audio” and “region” extensions for CDs
and DVDs
(“echo play >/fs/cd/.info./audio” and so on). It has nothing to do with
“hidden files” (the
ISO9660 “existence” bit). You can prevent the system creating this
directory by using
the “info=” option (if you don’t supply a name after the “=” it is disabled,
otherwise it is
exported as the provided name instead of the “.info.” default). So specify
either
“devb-eide cd info=” or “-o info=” depending on how you mount your CD
filesystem.

From the docs about fs-cd.so, I saw an option for specifying the name for
the information pseudo-directory which is exactly the above directory
‘.info.’, but I don’t know how to let fs-cd.so not generate it.
Can you hide ‘.info.’ in you case? How do you do that?
Thanks.
