In trying to run chkfsys on my root file system. First I got
a message that chkfsys couldn’t determine the size of the
parition.
When I retried the operation
How? I only can chkfsys /dev/hd0t79. chkfsys cannot check files under /fs/… in my system. So did
you umount (cd-rom at least)?
chkfsys complains that my
.boot and .altboot files are outside of the first 1024
cylinders.
HOWEVER . . .
fdisk /dev/hd0 shows this disk to have 730 cylinders.
I think it is true in LBA mode. But number of cyls is different in NORMAL or LARGE mode. I guess
your disk has more than 1024 cyls in NORMAL mode. As I understand that message is only warning.
I’m not sure this warning is useful if system’s BIOS supports LBA mode and loader uses BIOS’s calls
during booting. I did not find the way to suppress this warning in my system. (I want this too )

What version are you running? My 6.1 machines(both full installation &
embedded) will keep complaining abt .boot & .altboot being outside the first
1024 cylinders. Other than that, doing a ‘chkfsys -u /’ works fine.
