netmanager & dhcp.client

Hi All,

I Had some strange behaviours with the combination netmanager and
dhcp.client. IP addresses were claimed by my box. I don’t know what I did
wrong. Do You???

What kind of behaviour are you seeing? More detail in what you’re trying to
do, how you’re going about it, and what problems you are seeing would be
helpful

Hi Adam,

What i did:

dhcp.client

netmanager

What happened:
Network administrator was complaining and accussed me of stealing IP
addresses from other machines.

What I want:
Setting up first NIC using DHCP. I need to provide a HOSTNAME here
Setting up second NIC with fixed IP address and gateway

Problem is:
If I use netmanager alone, dhcp.client is started without providing a
hostname to the DHCP server.

What I think I need to do:

dhcp.client

ifconfig

route

Am I right???

Extra QUESTIONS:
Are there undocumented function/tags for /etc/net.cfg so that netmanager
provides a hostname using dhcp.client?

Regards,

Freddy

Did you try dhcp.client -h hostname?

Eduard.

In “TCP/IP Configuration” program (configure->network or phlip ,
if you set an interface to DHCP instead of Manual, you can type
in an “Id”, which is your HOSTNAME.
