problem with DHCP

I am using 6.1 patch A. If I select Manual Connection for my TCP/IP
configuration I get an ip adress and am able to communicate on our
company intranet. However, if I select DHCP and enter a host name and
domain name it is not recognized by other computers on the network.
There is an ip address listed for the name server and default gateway.
Any idea how to get this working? I need to operate with a name, not a
fixed ip address. Thanks.

The hostname you specify, isn’t propagated on an IP network. You need a DNS
server to do the IP-> name resolving for you. I assume your intranet
already has one, so it should be simply a matter of updating the DNS record
for you IP.

We are using NT name servers. Any idea how I would go about updating
the DNS? Thanks.

Apparently NT name server has an option to automaticaly add
name and talk to the NT dhcp server. The admin where I worked was
suppose to enable this , but he quit before getting a chance to try this ;-(
