ls not working with anonymous ftp

Hi.

I have set up an anonymous ftp account. Unfortunately, neither ‘dir’ nor
‘ls’ sem to work. I have read the documentation on ftpd, and found that
that a copy of ls has to be in ~ftp/bin. I have also read postings on
this list and found out that a copy of libc needs to be in ~ftp/lib, and
that pipe has to be up and running. Despite this, ‘dir’ and ‘ls’ are
still not working. Advice would be appreciated.

The output from ‘dir’ or ‘ls’ is:

200 PORT command successful.
550 /bin/ls: Function not implemented.

Funny you should mention it…

This problem was first reported in August 2000, and observed by many people
since. And now, just this morning, I see that a fix has been entered for
it; but of course this won’t be in the general commercial release for some
time (I won’t try to guess how long).

Meanwhile, does the problem go away if you have “pipe” running on the ftpd
host?

Sorry, I see from your previous posting that you already know about pipe…

Incidentally, if you have a support contract with QSSL, you may be able to
arrange through your sales rep to get an “engineering release” of the fixed
ftpd instead of waiting for the next general release.
