hit esc for .altboot does something weird

Installed 6.2.1. on a new PC (Compact PCI system).
The weird thing is that the default .boot image wouldn’t boot.
(prints the dots & then …S)

If you press ESC, the computer boots ok.

If I copy /boot/fs/qnxbasedma.ifs to /.boot & /.altboot,
exactly the same thing happens.
Doesn’t boot when you don’t press ESC, and boots
ok when you do press ESC.

So what else is happenning here ?!
What more is happneing when you press ESC, because t
doesn’t look like the boot image is making a difference?

It doesn’t mean that the default .boot image wouldn’t boot, rather it means QNX loader has read
…boot file to memory but doesn’t recognize it as a valid startup image. I guess, there is something
wrong with filesystem. Try chkfsys and then copy.
