Display resolutions for Rage Mobility

Pete,
I have another laptop to make your day. Its a Gateway Solo 9300 with
15.7" display. It uses the ATI Rage Mobility chip with 8MB video ram.

I can get this to run accelerated up to 1024 by 768(16 bit, I haven’t
tried any higher depth). When I try to use 1280 by 1024(also 16
bit)it works but is unaccelerated. If I select 1280x1024 and use the
Rage driver it works but the next time I boot it hangs when I try to
go into Photon with:

ph
devi-hirun kbd fd -d/dev/kbd ps2 kb -2
#Waiting for the Input driver to startup…
Mode not found in table
< long pause > 30 seconds >
< shell prompt comes back but hitting enter doesn’t do
anything>
< ctrl-alt-shift-backspace gets me keyboard control again>

If I change /etc/system/graphics-modes so that the first line uses the
vesa driver I can get into Photon in 1280 by 1024 mode.

Any more info I can get for you?

Thanks,
Carlos

Not really. Dave Donohoe is the current ATI XPert (heheh), but he’s thrown
his back out so he may not reply until Monday.

It sounds like it may have already been reported though, and if it’s
the same sort of problem, it’s related to the flat panel. We’ve ordered
one of the new DFP flat panels so he should be able to get it working,
although not neccessarily by the first patch.

You mighty try plugging in a real monitor, and/or trying whatever
key on the laptop switches between monitor and panel mode.
