Sorry for this (probably) stupid question, but I know Photon and XPhton,
but what is Phindows?
I have read this in some threads here.
Thanks!

Okay, I’ll take a stab at it.
Phindows is a Microschlock Windoze program (written by QNX) that lets you
have access to a Photon server on any machine and all of the applications
running thereunder. In other words, if you’re running Photon on your QNX6
(RtP) desktop, you can run phindows on your Win98 (or whatnot) PC, and via
TCP/IP connect to your Photon desktop and run applications just as if you
were sitting at the console of your RtP machine. In fact, you can even
“take over” the currently active session on the console if you want to, or
you can create a totally new session (that won’t appear on the monitor on
the RtP machine). I use it both ways. Sometimes I leave the office with a
bunch of stuff running in various windows (this is under QNX4, but the same
principal applies). From home, I can tie in via TCP/IP, take over the
existing session on my QNX4 box, and it’s as if I’m still at work (only I
can be home enjoying a fine carbonated beverage while I’m putzing with the
system). It’s very cool, and kicks the crap out of stuff like “PC Anywhere”
because it’s non-invasive. It runs kinda chunky but workable at 56K, it’s
pretty good at 128K, and it’s awesome on a direct LAN. The only types of
programs that seem to give it heartburn are heavy duty animations. They
take a lot of bandwidth and tend to make things very chunky and can even
lead to lockups. I hope this adequately describes it for you. Others, feel
free to add in what I’ve forgotten to include…

Perfectly . Thanks.

Just a couple of notes. The Unix counterpart of Phindows (Photon in Windows)
is Photon in X (Phinx). There is also a legacy beta product called Qwinph
(Qwindows in Photon).

QNX windows. It should be the first QNX GUI. Does it this mean?
Thanks.

Yes, QWindows in Photon software gave the ability to run QWindows inside
a Photon session. Unfortenately one machine could only run once instance
of QWindows at a time.
Thanks.
