Photon on a tosh

I know there have been problems with running Photon on a Toshiba laptop.

I have a Tecra 520CDT with a Chip& Tech 65550 PCI graphics card at
800x600.

I would like to run qnxrtp under QNX4. Has anyone got Photon to work on a
Tosh.

That’s like saying you’d like to run WindowsNT under DOS 6.22 –
they’re both operating systems… I suspect you may mean
that you’d like to run Photon 2.0 (the GUI compenent of the RTP
(now to be known as QNX 6, I’m told… shrug) on our old OS,
QNX 4. If that’s the case, then I’m afraid you’re out of luck.
The new version of Photon was written very much with the new OS
in mind, and I’ve heard some pretty firm statements in the
hallways that Hell Would Freeze Over ™ before it was
back-ported. That said, I’m not the official QNX spokesman, so
take the information as less than Our Official Position - but
don’t get your hopes up, OK?

I’ll say something official.

There are no plans at all to support Photon 2.0 under QNX 4.xx

I’ll try to answer part of this. We have successfully used Photon
1.14, running on QNX 4.25, on a Toshiba Tecra ???CDT (where ??? is 640
I believe - the machine is out of town, as is typical of laptops).
Everything works for us, even the sound. The 65550 graphics chip
caused us problems in a much earlier version of Photon, but has not
been any trouble for the last couple of years. I cannot speak for
Photon 2 (on QNX6) as we have not attempted to install QNX6 on that
machine.

Cheers,
Andrew

For the record, I remember getting Dec’s RT-11 OS running as a process under
Dec’s RSTS/E OS.

Pretty Cool!

But I do agree with what you said.

err oh dear. Typical example of insufficient information in the original
post I believe.

I thought that if I downloaded qnxrtp.tar.F I could run QNXrtp on a QNX4
machine.

I could then run Photon 2.0 when I boot into QNXrtp and Photon 1.14 at
800x600 when running QNX4.

However, I understand that people have had problems running Photon 2 on a
tosh. I tried a while ago and got QNXrtp to work but not photon 2.

I hoped that someone had found a work around by now.
