Hardware suggestions (video etc.)

Hi,
I’ll be putting together a PC class (WinTell) system to run QNX RTP 6.1…

Any suggestions on hardware that works best with QNX?

Good 2D video is important - lots of PtTrend type data and double buffered
2D animations.

I’m leaning towards the ATI Radeon card as drivers for it seem to be well
supported is this true.

Any better suggestions? What about a motherboard/bios/processor etc. Any
set up in particular less likely to have problems?

Thanks and regards,

Steve

I’m just a newbie with QNX - few days, but my ATI Radeon AIW
works fine.

My system :
Abit KT7a-Raid - AMD1Ghz - 386Mo SDRAM - ATI AIW Radeon 32Mo
(I don’t use the Raid, because it’s not recognize by BeOS. Don’t know
for QNX)

I wonder now if there is any plan for Tuner driver ?

Hi,

I responded to your post in qdn.public.qnxrtp.instalation.
Please don’t cross-post as is makes a mess of the newsgroups.

What about the radeon driver in 6.1? Is it documented to work fine
without issues (not like the tnt driver)?

What about the 2d card speed?
Anyone knows if a radeon card is faster for 2d (say blitting
operations and some 2d raster effects) than an ati rage128 with
a significant difference?

I’ve the need to display some animations
which uses double buffering and a lot of video ram.
My actual video card (ati rage128) would be fine but with 32mb of
video ram are insufficient. Probably I’ll buy a radeon card with
64mb of video ram. Anyone had problem with this card?

Joe

Yes, that’s the kind of information that I’m after also. Same sort of
scenario - 2D blitting, and/or scrolling PtTrend displays. Given that sort
of usage, what is the best card to get?

That sort of information goes beyond “Check the supported hardware list on
the QNX site”.

If there is no list/faq we can start one.

This week, or probably the next one I’ll buy one and I’ll make some
tests. Sincerly, I don’t like to buy something that’s like a “black box”.
And going out for spending 200$ of my money it’s not my ideal of life .
Althrough these tests are necessary before equipping many machines with it.

I’ll post the results here (problems and card speed vs my rage128) if
this could interest you

I’d love to hear any details. I’ll keep a detailed list of boards and
properties, so if anybody else with any specific boards and comments wants
to pass it along to me to catalog, feel free.

Cheers,
Steve

Cheers,

Got an Ati Radeon Vivo 64MB DRR today. Got it to work under neutrino
in less than 5 minutes.
Actually works without issues, no visual defects, no problems with
blitting/raster effects/chroma key/direct access.

This card shows a little increment in 2d speed:
(compared to an ati rage128 pro 16mb sdram)

+12% pure blitting speed
+4% combined raster effects (lines, circles, …)

These tests were done in 3 hours of preliminary testing but
everything seems to be fine.

Detailed speed comparison with an ati rage128 will be avaible shortly.
I also intend to bechmark ati mach64 cards (already tested to work fine).

I’ll test later video ram access speed, maximal offscreen context
aperture and maximal avaible amount of video ram.

Steve

Thanks,
That’s great news. Sounds like a photon graphics test suite is in order
