What are the environment variables that have to be set when viewing pages
containing encodings charset iso-8859-1 ?
Just like viewing a flash clip, VPI_PLUGIN_PATH have to be exported before a
flash clip is able to display correctly in a webclient. Anyone has any idea
what’s the variable name that has to be set when displaying page with mime
charset encoding?

I’m sorry I didn’t explain the problem clearly. Here’s the problem,
I’m currently working on a email application website. I discovered that
certain messages cannot be displayed correctly.
Messages with charset iso-8859-1 have the ‘=’ signs sprinkled in the
messages. I understand the ‘=’ signs is appended by the server or
the sending party as indication that the a full sentence is broken up into
adjacent lines.
This problem exist in an embedded system and we’re using a webclient widget
for viewing of webpages.
I’ve tested the site on the full installation(using voyager) and it works
fine. ABLPATH is set to /usr/photon/translations, all the iso-related .tab
files are in /usr/photon/translations and charset file is also present.
Therefore, I suspect I need to export another environment variable in order
for this to work, just like the VPI_PLUGIN_PATH for flash clip. Any ideas?

The developer has given me the following information regarding your
issue. The =´ has nothing to do with the charset, it´s actually a content-transfer-encoding´ of quoted-printable, which is a email only
header. This has nothing to do with a web browser, your email client
must do the conversion.

Anyway, I thought the problem is caused by the transfer encoding initially
too, however, there are no distortions on the font color and size.
Everything else comes out fine.(eg. a normal “=” would become “=3D” for
quoted-printable, if the sentence’s not decoded, the sentence would be
“font=3D2” instead of “font=2” resulting a different font size or color)
So I presume my decoding is done correctly since the font size/color/face
appear correctly and the source codes at the client size doesn’t show any
“=3D” or stuffs like that. I also rule out our customize web client widget
as the problem cause since I’ve tested it on the full system and there are
no distortions either.
To sum up, I’ve tested the site on voyager & a web client application on the
full system, no distortions present.
Similarly, I tested the site on voyager & the web client application on our
embedded system, distortions are present on both.
Therefore, I feel that maybe it’s not the ‘content-transfer-encoding’,
instead it should be something related to the system.
The full /usr/photon/translations dir is present onto the embedded system(I
didn’t touch any files inside at all) but /usr/photon/mime is not present
since I’m not using vmail. I really got no idea what I’m missing out.
