ATI Radeon 7500 Mobility

Hello,
I have a Compaq laptop which has an ATI Radeon 7500 Mobility graphics card.
I have the VESA drivers working but can’t seem to get the radeon drivers
workings correctly. Whenever I try the Radeon driver I get a moving line
down the middle of the screen and the picture is offset to the left, I have
to reboot to go back to the VESA drivers.

I checked the pci settings and the device id is 4c57h and specifys the name
Radeon Mobility M6 LW. I had a quick look in the
/etc/system/enum/devices/graphics file and found an entry for this pci id.

Any ideas to get this going ?

I can live with the VESA driver for the present time but that has a real
slow refresh rate when trying to scroll anything i.e. help and terminals.

TIA, Brett.

Hey Brett,

You could try the experimental vesa driver (it has a virtual framebuffer).

There are known issues with devg-radeon.so and the ATI Radeon 7500 Mobility.
A new version of the driver will be available in an upcoming patch that
may solve your problem. Unfortunately I don’t know the exact date of when
this may be available. Someone else may be able to comment on that.

Same sort of problems with the 9000 Mobility variant here (on a Dell
Inspiron 8200).
(which was not on the support list however).

My report of experienced symptoms should be Goog’able easily.

Regards,

Leon.

This vesa driver worked just grand!
