ddd ignore some keys through phindows

I’m on an NT station with a qwerty keyboard.
I use ddd through phindows and I’m unable to type all shift 1, 2, …
characters

Any idea?

Thanks,
Alain.

You can’t run ddd via phindows. Phindows does not properly support “Photon
in X” product.
If you try to type “_” (underscore), you will see some real funky keyboard
use. I have the same
problem. For now, I run ddd on the actual target machine (which is a real
pain). I code and
test using Phindows, but when I need ddd, I have to physically move to the
lab and work on
the target system’s console.

BTW: emacs has the same problem. I have switched to “jed”.

The following is an email I received from QNX:

Hi Randy,
I’m the QNX FAE in your area. Tracy asked me to contact you regarding your

Phindows question. Basically, Phindows works only with Photon, not with

X or with any other non-Photon graphics engine. If you can give me some

information on what you’re trying to accomplish, maybe I can suggest a

workaround.

Dick Green

If you are look for running X applications remotely, VNC is
probably a better solution? Garry?

I use ddd through Phindows every day. Yes there are a few key mappings that
don’t quite work but it is 99% usable. I think it is a little misleading to
imply that it doesn’t work at all.

The Phindows problem with the Helpviewer is 100 times more annoying ;->

The other solution is to run an X Server on your windows box and set your
DISPLAY variable accordingly. One of our developers does this all the time
and swears by it.

The problem with Xphoton not using the key mappings from photon is
horribly
annoying when you use a non-US keyboard, it practically prohibits me
from
using any X-programs since I can’t use many of the most important keys
unless I set the keyboard locale in photon to US.
And then I have to keep track of where on my keyboard the US keys are
placed.

This is especially horrible when trying to use any X-IDE for code
development,
since the ()[]{};:&* and other rather useful keys don’t work…

I would be a very happy person is someone could give me any advice to a
solution…

It’s because I switched to an qwerty keyboard on my NT station but the problem
remains for the first line of keys !@#$,… which is unusable.

What I don’t understand is that Garry Turcote said that it may have a solution
with xmodmap and add that they were close to a solution it was in 12/06/00.
Allmost one year later, NOTHING!

David Vasiliev used this solution for russian keyboard but I didn’t really
understand how to do.
You can find it at ftp://ftp2.qnx.org.ru/pub/repository/xphcyr-1.0-x86-gnu.qpr
If somebody understand, I’m interested!

I would really like that QNX work a little on XPhoton/Phindows maybe they
consider xphoton as a style exercice. I consider it as a very important
development tool!!!

Regards,
Alain.

Does it work better if you use X directly? either

  1. Run a X emulator (such as Exceed) on Windows and run ddd remotely.
    or
  2. Run Windows VNC client to connect to RTP and run ddd remotely

Hello All

We have been trying to pull our developers out of the newsgroups. This is why
Garry hasn’t answered yet. He still reads the newsgroups it’s just that the
answer will come from someone like myself. This way our tech support people
can gain a better understanding about that products that QNX provides. As to this
problem being fixed, it has been in the new Xphoton. The reason why it wasn’t fixed
sooner is because Xphoton was pushed back due to some other higher priority products.
The release date for the new Xphoton hasn’t been scheduled yet but the problem that you
mention has been fixed in the new release.

Thanks
Rodney

I cannot answer to your question but it works locally in Xphoton. The problems comes
from Phindows. I will see if I can try your suggestion.

Thanks,
Alain.
