QNX Developers Community

Hello,

I’ve just joined QNX as a manager of the QNX Developer’s Community - my job
is to make sure your needs as developers are being properly met through QNX
programs and initatives. This includes listening to your needs as
developers and ensuring that we have the right “stuff” in place to support
you.

For some background info, I’ve been in DSP tools development for Texas
Instruments for a number of years so the embedded world is not new to me,
but the QNX aspect of it is. I’d like us to work together as developers and
exchange ideas in what we can do to further foster a great developer
community. As a start, I’d appreciate your taking a bit of time in answering
some questions about the on-line QNX developer’s network (QDN.QNX.COM) as it
is today - your feedback will serve to improve your (and your customers’)
experiences with a growing network of QNX developers/experts…

In your mind, what makes a good on-line community?
What are some of your favourite on-line developer portals? Why?
What portion(s) of the QDN website (qdn.qnx.com) do you find most/least
useful for helping you in your development?
What would you like to see more/less of in QDN (eg. would you like to see
more interaction with other users)?
What do you find QNX can do to improve the developer perception of QNX?
These are some questions - feel free to add your comments and expand as you
see fit. Send me your feedback, your suggestions, and anything you’d like to
see change as we start this process. Your input is incredibly valuable in
making this happen!

Thanks
Haris

Warren is back, cool!

Hey Warren, I just notice your @nospam.com. Guess what,
nospam.com does exist. My feeling is that it’s probably setup to
log email addresses. Hence anyone trying to send “you” an email
by replying to the post, ends up having its name store in the a database
somewhere that gets sold to spammers.

Note: I’m just guessing here.

Sounds like a good theory to me. Track 'em down and shut 'em off, I say.

Did you check out www.nospam.com? It’s looks like a webpage full of spam -
links to ads for get rich quick schemes, etc. Kind of funny really…

Haris,

One thing I’ve been looking for (not too hard yet) is some kind of list of
external developer sites for QNX4 and QNX6. I know there is/was a 3rd party
apps page for QNX4, but it seemed a bit old.

Something where if a developer ported a new utility or application to QNX,
they could go to the site and add a link to a website or download link to
the ported application. It would also be nice for having a “requests”
section where people looking for a port of a certain application could place
requests and developers could go to find new porting tasks if they want to.

And a status page, if a developer starts to port a certain application, they
could post that up so people can see if someone else is working on it. A
starting date and status of port would be good there, so people could get an
idea if the port is being worked on or on the back burner.

I have been maintaining, for myself, a list of QNX related links where other
developers have suggested sites or posted applications. Something like this
but as a larger developer/customer tool would be very nice, especially for
QNX6. It would be nice to not have everybody porting the same thing over
and over, if they knew they could just go to a site and find the port
already.

I’m loving QNX6 more and more each day, and keep wanting to find more and
add more.

That link was not the appeal to the community. I just mentioned that page as opposite to
www.nospam.com . As to me they both are useless. I found the lastpage ocassionally and I was
shocked by the some guys activity. I would be too lazy to creat and register of such page
I’m sorry for unproductive racket here.
