IDE another diff'ing question

Can I diff a project copy of a file with a copy of the file on the
file system?

I know I can import the copy from the file system, but tha is too
much work.

If this ability does not currently exist, can it be added?

Right now, no. But Eclipse 3.0 is attempting to provide a view into
the local filesystem from within the IDE. That way you won’t have to import
anything. Lots of requests to be able to edit files not part of a project,
etc, etc.

Yeah. This is a major annoyance.

Yeah. This is a major annoyance.

Ah, but you can!

You could make a simple project that contains a large part of your HDD, as long as you don't overlap your workspace:

File>New>Project>Simple>Project>Next
Enter the Project name.
Uncheck “Use Default”
Directory: “c:\data” (or whatever)
Click Finish

Add new file associations by selecting Window>Preferences>Workbench>File
Associations.

Hope this helps,

Not really, the caveat “as long as you don’t overlap your workspace”, makes this basically useless, as the workspace is (by default)
expected to be rooted at ones home directory, and most of the “other stuff” one would probably be interested in viewing are likely to
be found in ones home directory, thereby violating the “don’t overlap” rule.

I am living just fine with the way it is now (I can switch my brain between the CUA and emacs “partitions” pretty seamlessly now),
but (and I know I might be shot for saying this) I would like to erase the emacs portion of my brain eventually (the IDE editor is
just not there yet, and this is one reason why).

I have read this quite often in QNX newgroup that “this feature is available
in Eclipse x.yy”. But you never mention which version of IDE will support
it. How about giving us an estimation when is your next release of 6.2x or
6.3x, etc.? We are not playing a guessing game, are we?

The trouble you run into is that we aren’t going to base a product on a version
of Eclipse before it is released. Eclipse 3.0 is slated to be released in
2Q2004. So you won’t see anything from us based on it before then.

Hi Chrsi

Is there an adrertised release date (non-beta) for 6.2.1B?

Is there an adrertised release date (non-beta) for 6.2.1B?

No idea. Best to talk to your sales rep for that kind of info.

Um…6.2.1B? I think it is released, now. (Was a while ago,
actually.)

According to your web page
(http://www.qnx.com/myqnx/productupdates.qnx)

The latest “released” version is 6.2.1A.

If 6.2.1B is released, how to I get it?

Ah, I find that page very confusing… but couldn’t get anyone
to change it.

What you have to do is select your CURRENT product in the drop-down
lists, and it will take you to a page with a list of updates for
that product.

So, for example I have “910084 - Momentics PE 6.2.1A” listed in the
drop down list. I select this, and I’m taken to a page that will
allow me to download a variety of different updates for it, including
QNX Momentics 6.2.1B PE June 26, 2003.

You’re right. It IS there and it IS confusing.
