I thought I heard that there is a way to run XPhoton as a managed
session, where there is a single root window, window manager,
etc. that can consume an entire Photon console. I haven’t been
able to find any information on how that would be done. Is this
actually possible? I would like to use XPhoton to remotely log into
and work on a networked Linux box. Gnome gets really confused when it
tries to open up every application in its own Photon window,
particularly things like gmc.

I found out how to do this (using the -geom flag) by browsing the
other qdn* newsgroups. I am still unable to find any documentation
to suggest this argument exists.
I have a new bug. I connect to a Linux box using XDCMP, and start a
Gnome session there. The login and display are fine (though graphics
speed is horrendous). The big problem is that none of the X
applications ever gets a Mouse-down-motion event. Pull-down menus
don’t operate in click-and-drag mode, and I cannot move any windows by
dragging their title bars. The same X session works fine directly
through the server’s console, or through an MS-Windows based X server
(XWin-32 in my case).
Another question - can we run Xphoton in “kiosk” mode, where it
completely fills a Photon console without having a Photon border or
title bar?
I know that Xphoton is not supposed to be “production” software. I’m
hoping to use it for cross development and system administration so I
won’t have to boot Windows as much, and Linux not at all.
Thanks,
Andrew

Try -root and -kiosk

Thanks, Chris. That works well. Can you point me to the
documentation for this? Also, I’m still curious about how to get
mouse-down-motion events to work. A lot of features (obviously)
depend on it:

I only know about those options from playing and talking with the
developer that did the work! As for the mouse-down-motion, I have
the same problem and I am not sure what the fix is for that right now.

In that case, could you please point this out to the documentation
folks?

sure what the fix is for that right now.
At least it’s reproduceable. Has a bug report been filed by anybody
on this one.
Thanks,
Andrew
