rdate vs rtc net (6.2.1)

Hi,
My server is set with:
timezone on France
Hardware clock uses UTC/GMT unchecked.
Use Daylight Savings Time checked
time on 7:50
Set Real Time Clock checked.

On a target, set with same parameters as above.
I type ‘rdate Serveur_qnx’ and I get 7:50 CEST. Ok
If I type ‘rtc net Serveur_qnx’, I get 6:50 CEST.

Why?

Thanks,
Alain.

I think you need rtc -l net Serveur_qnx

BTW - why don’t you have your server set to UTC/GMT?

The UNIX philosophy is to set the clock to UTC/GMT time. Then each
user can export a TZ (time zone variable). Any times displayed or
interpreted are done using the local time zone.

It means that you can have dial-up users in different time zones on
the same computer and they can all see the correct current local time.

It also helps when transmitting data from time zone to time zone. You
stamp the data with the UTC time stamp and all of the computers
involved should have an easy time comparing time stamps in one time
zone to time stamps in another.

The system will also figure out when daylight savings time starts and
ends automatically.

On the other hand, if the same system is also used to boot windows,
windows seems to like to keep the hardware clock set to local time.
They never quite got it.

Well, do you have to manually change the time on your server
when daylight savings starts/stops?
