photon or not photon!

hi,

We are thinking about how to build our GUIs in the future.
Using a portable graphics programming way like X, Kdevelop, tcl, …,
so:
-using XPhoton because… it exists!
-using an Xfree port because it’s a true X server!
Or:
Using Photon because its… what we must use!

We’ll make embedded applications on a SC520 (something like Pentium 75)
motherboard to control textile machines.

Unfortunately, I have no element to explain to my boss what we have to
do!

Sure you can help me!

Thanks,
Alain.

Here’s my $0.02:

  • If portability of your GUI app is a must, then use Java.

  • If relative compactness and speed is important then use native
    Photon.

  • If portability and compactness and speed are all mandatory, then
    start
    looking for another job…

Of course there is some subtext to each of these points, but my opinion
based on what you’ve related here, would be to use native Photon (since
your using a relatively low powered device your performance will be
much better).

btw: I have related my opinion in another thread wrt using Xphoton in a
runtime environment (bottom line, it doesn’t make one grain of
sense).
