eclipse and QNX...

Hi…

I just heard Dan Dodge talk about QNX and eclipse, and how is QNX’s
vision that every RTOS should embrace eclipse. I commend QNX for this
vision, and it is easy to see how QNX could play a tremendous role with
regard to plugins contributions to an open API. A question however,
does this mean that qnx6.1.1 will host the eclipse IDE + concept??

Also, since we wanted and IDE for qnx yesterday, is there a beta version
of eclipse for 6.1.0?? If so, where? A corollary question is, when will
6.1.1 be available?

Regards…

Miguel

It is my understanding, that there will be a QNX 6 version.

Eclipse is written entirely in Java, it should be completely O/S
independent, I certainly hope it is (at the very least) minor version
number independent  As for the second question, there is a R1.0 on
the eclipse website available for download, but I have no idea whether
it will work with Java under QNX6, or what steps would be necessary to
make it do so if it does (personally I’ll wait a while, before looking
further into this, although it looks like it has a lot of potential).

That is partially true. Eclipse has its own GUI toolkit called SWT,
which is platform dependent. Fortunately, there is a Photon version of
SWT.

I had this working at one time, so it is possible, but this was an
early version of Eclipse and some things that I did are likely
different now. I know the QNX folks are working on this, but I’ll let
them comment on specifics.

If you download from eclipse.org, there should be a readme document
called “Running” that tells you how to run with the J9 VM (QNX version
of this can be downloaded at www.embedded.oti.com) and how to use the
-ws option to specify the window system desired (i.e. Photon).

Thanks for your suggestions. Perhaps qnx6.1.1 comes with a working
version.

Just the most recent information from the QNX Tools and Technology Seminar (3-4 December,
Bratislava, Slovak Republic):

According to the Mr. Sven Behnsen (QNX Software System GmbH) the Eclipse beta
for QNX will be released in 1Q 2002.

As for the Phab, the belief (no offical statement) was expressed, that a Phab will become
a plugin to Eclipse, so that even the Phab projects could be imported to the Eclipse.
However, it was only a belief …

During the Eclipse presentation Dan Dodge said Phab would be integrated.
