inn.qnx.com newsgroups

Really, these newsgroups are completely illogical.
OK ok illogical is strong, but this is *advocacy after all
-there is too much overlap: qnxrtp.os vs.applications,
qdn.public.devtools vs *.qnxrtp.devtools
-some groups are too general e.g. *.qnxrtp.photon
-tcpip is covered only in ddk.network. Not all network
problems are ddk problems.

QUICS had about the right mix, as far I can remember.
hardware other voyager
c ica phindows vsdk
c++ iedit photon wprof
daq kernel qnx2 x
dev net qwindows
ditto neutrino rundos
ekit neutrino2 tcpip
fsys news utils

Granted, it had fewer areas to cover, but I keep on
having to painfully search through inn.qnx.com
(there is no global search facility that I can find)
and do so on several NGs because of the overlap.

Case in point:there have been several posts about cdrecord.
But in which group: *.os? *.applications? *.neutrino?

It’s time for a restructuring…

don’t worry. the rumor says the newsgroups (nntp server) will
go away and be replaced by the web based forum (eg: phpbb).
I am sure they will listen to your suggestions as what
forums to create.

Speaking of internet collaboration, what happen to the IRC servers? Both
irc.joher.com AND irc.qnxzone.com seem to be down. I knew qnxzone.com was
having problems…but joher.com as well? Has the Frenchman finaly flipped?

NO !!!

How many times has QSSL SWORN that this is the last time they were
going to change their newsgroups? QUICS worked. People wrote tools
to access it. Poor Mitch was even selling a tool to access QUICS.
I wrote tools to access QUICS. Then QUICS went away.

Now I finally have a whole suite of tools for accessing the
inn.qnx.com newsgroups. I can finally find what I’m looking for.

PLEASE DON’T MAKE EVERYONE THROW THEIR SOFTWARE AWAY - AGAIN !!!

Regarding this, I do agree. The QUICS conferences were
much better organized.

The server for irc.qnxzone.com was operated by astra network, who had to shut
down the server when they moved locations. To make the transition smooth, the
DNS for irc.qnxzone.com (which actually pointed at qnxzone.astranetwork.com) was
changed to point to irc.joher.com. There are still plans to bring up another
server for north america, at which time we will update the DNS for irc.qnxzone.com
to point at the north american server. Until then, there is only one server, which
is irc.joher.com, and it is offline for unknown reasons.

Maybe someone can phone the frenchman?

Cheers,
Camz.

Have you tried irc.openqnx.com ?
a temperary irc server was setup while waiting for the official one
to come back online.

Any idea how we archive that? NNTP is so simple. They should
maintain an NNTP personality for the web-based forums so that
those of us with batch-oriented mentalities can get our stuff
without having to have a GUI running and pointing and clicking
just to read something…

I assume a restructuring of the NGs will take some time,
so a first step could be to freeze the following NGs :

qdn.public.qnxrtp.porting
qdn.public.qnxrtp.devtools
qdn.public.qnxrtp.installation
qdn.public.qnxrtp.photon
qdn.public.qnxrtp.newuser

The remaining NGs could be enough:
qdn.public.porting
qdn.public.devtools
qdn.public.installation
qdn.public.photon
qdn.public.newuser

From my understanding, QNX RTP is outdated, so the rest of
qdn.public.qnxrtp.xy groups could be renamed w/o “qnxrtp”

or in qdn.public.qnx6.xy
