Where to get video cards

Hi,

Any ideas where to get Video cards that will work with QNX 4 and Photon
1.14?

If someone from QSSL reads this, are there any plans to support the
new/current Video cards?

TIA

yes, this is a real trouble to find working Video card for qnx4 :-/ after a
lot of experiments in our labs we suddenly found that the following Video
cards however works under qnx4:

http://qdn.qnx.com/support/hardware/qnx4/video.html

if seriously. you mean photon, right ? at least we’v used s3 trio 32/64x
(PCI) cards, ATI 3D Rage IIC (AGP) and several others. all works very well
at least in two modes: original drivers and “flat” drivers i.e. based on
VESA v2.0+ PM BIOS calls. the only one warning: if you can i would suggest
you not to use old ISA cards. PCI or AGP works much better. afair i have a
lot of troubles configuring such cards dut to they usually couldn’t be
detecred right way by crttrap → i had to write configuration file manually.
it wasn’t really too fun process…

sure folks’v tested about the whole range of cards listed in the above link
so at least i would trust them

manufacturer and date of release, sir. please man & date…

I was wondering if there is someone at QSSL responsible for setting up
QNX4/Photon 1.14 systems, that might have a good source for fast PCI video
cards?

TIA

Ian:

Which are the parameters that you normally have to change in the
configuration file in order to detect an AGP video card ?

Thanks,

Ariel

Thanks,

An AGP card will appear exactly the same way a PCI card will
appear. Try “show_pci” to find it.

Here is what my system shows for two Voodoo cards, one PCI one AGP,
guess which is which.

Class = Display (VGA)
Vendor ID = 121ah,
Device ID = 5h,
PCI index = 0h
MEM @ ce000000h MEM @ d0000000h IO @ e000h ROM @ ce800000h enabled
PCI Int Pin = INT A
Interrupt line = 14

Class = Display (VGA)
Vendor ID = 121ah,
Device ID = 5h,
PCI index = 1h
MEM @ c8000000h MEM @ cc000000h IO @ c000h ROM @ c8800000h enabled
PCI Int Pin = INT A
Interrupt line = 11

Which Voodoo AGP card are you using?

An answer to this would be really helpful, I am starting to get a collection
of PCI video cards that do not have any hardware acceleration under 1.14,
that makes them really slow !

as an example - lot of video chips embedded on motherboard. for example some
Intel chipsets on SIS’s motherboards. sorry, right now i don’t remember the
exact chipset model :frowning: result: there’s no native hardware drivers so i had
to use flat drivers → speed was slower then if i used native drivers. but
anyway usually it works even with Pg.flat driver.

I feel this is a very important issue. We need to make some noise! There
needs to be at least one or two video cards that we can buy to use with
QNX4/Photon1.14 systems. We don’t need to have support for every card in
the market.

If the card is capable of multi monitor support even better (like the Voodoo
cards, which are now gone and you can’t buy them any where).

Do we need to write to someone at QSSL?

TIA

The ATI XPERT 2000 are widely available and works with the rage128

I also found some TNT2 card.

If QSSL intends to phase out qnx 4.25/photon 1.14 support for new video
cards and network chipsets (read pcmcia 100bt) than why not put the existing
driver code in the public domain and be done with it?

Hi

did it trap with just crttrap or did you have to force it, I have an ATI
Rage XL (amongst others !) and it has been trapped with the driver Pg.flatdc
and Hydra.ms mode switcher. this is fine for resolution and colour depth but
I am stick with software cursor and no hardware acceleration so its really
slow. Ihave to resort to my ancient Matrox Millennium to get any speed.

I think that it’s a Voodoo 3 2000. I’ve been told that you
can’t get these anymore.

Mitchell Schoenbrun --------- maschoen@pobox.com

Can you send me the crt.NODE file that you are using with the AGP video card
?

Thanks in advance.

Ariel
