Photon Printing Library

I wonder if anyone is using the Pp* function in the QNX-Photon community.
Anytime i ask question about things not working like expected, i get no
answer in this newsgroup. Who is using it ? Is it something which is not
under development anymore and should not be used for further development ?
Are the QNX Rtp printing functions similar or better?
I hope that your answers will give me some ideas about the Photon QNX4
future.

I doubt it has any future.

I’m not Photon expert but I think Photon 2 (QNX6) has much better
printer handling capability.

Well, the future of QNX4 in general is quite limited!

But to answer Michael’s question: we use the printing functions quite
intensively and we also had lots of problems. But the last releases
became better, so I’d like to say ‘it works for us’.

The best aproach, if you’re not very limited in youre resources: use
Pp.ps in conjunction with ghostscript 6.50 or so.

The biggest problem from our point of view: printing regions from a
‘dittoed’ session doesn’t work.

Best regards,

:Karsten.

Thanks for the comments.

At least, the latest Printing library works for us as well. But the more you
use, the worse it gets.
For example:

You can select a tray for the printout, but it does not work.
We tried printing barcodes but you are not able to resize a single widget
(the barcode). You can resize the whole page, but then you have to resize
all of the fonts besides the barcode as well.
The print dialog is english, not based on a simple language file.
etc.

For my opinion these are only small problems, which could be adjusted
easily. But without the code, we are stuck with the willness of the QNX
development.

ACK

You can select a tray for the printout, but it does not work.

… we never used that feature (better say: tried to use).

We tried printing barcodes but you are not able to resize a single widget
(the barcode). You can resize the whole page, but then you have to resize
all of the fonts besides the barcode as well.

Can you explain that a little bit more?

The print dialog is english, not based on a simple language file.
etc.

We replaced that with our own dialog some years ago, working completely
with a LDB file and even some more features: suppressing of background
colours, colour adjustments when printing ‘white-on-black’ screens
(very specific to our apps, though).

For my opinion these are only small problems, which could be adjusted
easily. But without the code, we are stuck with the willness of the QNX
development.

Did you contact the German QNX department already? They are very
helpful in solving individual problems

Best regards,

:Karsten.
