Matrox G450 Dual Head Video

Hi Michael

There is very little to go on about this subject, but I have joined the
Photon Beta and tested the latest Beta driver for Matrox G450/550 etc. It
still doesn’t appear to support the second display, but, there is a
reference to initializing the second display embedded in the driver. Maybe
its on the cards ??

Martin

The QNX4 Beta driver for the Matrox G450/550 is built from the same source
code as the QNX6 driver. The functionality to initialize the second display
has been added for possible dual-head support in future versions of QNX6.
Again the problem is that the concept of dual-head output on a single device
does not exist at higher levels of the GUI. There are no plans to implement
this into QNX4.

OK Michael, thanks for the response, I guess I’ll just have to buy more PCs

Isn’t there the option of running two seperate cards to get two displays? I
thought the new Radeon driver supported this?

I asked Michael about this, and this is an option, that would surely be
cheaper than getting extra PC’s. You can use two seperate ATI Radeon, or
Rage 128’s in the same machine to get two displays. I hope this satisfies
your needs.

I have tried using two PCI cards, but the system was rather unstable, with
one or other of the screens hanging up periodically. What we are planning
for this arrangement will be required for systems for the next few years,
I’m not sure how long we will be able to get compatible cards etc. This
option seems a bit risky ? thanks for the info …

The reasoning behine doing the ATI Radeon driver was that it’s new and ATI
have pretty long life cycles for their cards. So hopefully you’ll be able
to get the these for “the next few years”… of course there’s no guarentee.
