FVWM

Hi,

Does anybody try to compile fvwm2?

It is compiled fine but don’t work.
It always writes message:
[FVWM][My_XNextEvent]: <> waiting for module input/output

a quick google search says:

This is a fvwm2 FAQ. The answer is that most likely you don’t have a
…fvwm2rc file. You must have one installed either in the fvwm2 library
directory or in your home directory; unfortunately, make install does
neither of these for you (it should do the first, IMHO). Instead, a
system.fvwmrc file is installed in the fvwm2 library directory. Either
link that to .fvwm2rc in the same directory, or copy system.fvwmrc to
$HOME/.fvwm2rc.

It took me a long time to puzzle this out, until I found the fvwm2
mailing list; to subscribe send “subscribe fvwm” in the body of
a message to majordomo=XU8PL4jWQ77cpaonp8vHtg@public.gmane.org

Also, have you tried fvwm95 yet? It’s very nice.

I have been created $HOME/.fvwm/.fvwm2rc and fvwm2 read this file.
I compiled one under Linux, all worked fine.

I don’t like anything reminding of Windows

Then you MUST use the ‘ice’ window manager

I don’t have rtp box to try it now. I will order a second hard disk
for my laptop and try it later.

that last line was also also from the google search result. I should
have removed it when I pasted it here.

btw, I’ve been using blackbox (a copy is on openqnx site).

I just uploaded fvwm-2.4.6 to the openqnx site, for both qnx4 and qnx6.

btw, fvwm is an extremely powerful window manager for the X Window system.
With the help of the fvwm themes project
http://fvwm-themes.sourceforge.net/
you can make fvwm look like OpenWindows, CDE, NeXT, Blackbox, GNOME, Win95, Mac,
here are some screenshots

enjoy!

Frank

I fixed the bug and uploaded the binary to the openqnx site.
I submitted my fixes to the fvwm team and they released
a new version (2.4.7) today with my fixes included.
